How many days are enough for a Mathura Vrindavan trip?
One full day is enough to see the main temples of Mathura and Vrindavan (Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish, Banke Bihari, ISKCON and Prem Mandir). Two days let you add Govardhan, Barsana and Nandgaon, and three to four days cover Gokul, Baldeo and Agra (Taj Mahal) at a relaxed pace. Plan temple visits in the morning (till about noon) and evening (after about 4:30 PM), because most temples close in the afternoon.
- Minimum1 day – Mathura & Vrindavan
- Ideal2–3 days – add Govardhan & Barsana
- With Agra3–4 days
- Best seasonOctober to March
- Temple hoursMorning till ~12 PM, evening ~4:30–8:30 PM
- Getting aroundPrivate cab with local driver
Step 1 – Decide how many days
| Days | What you can cover | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 1 day | Mathura Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish, Vishram Ghat, Banke Bihari, ISKCON, Prem Mandir | Delhi/NCR visitors, short trips |
| 2 days | + Govardhan parikrama (by car), Radha Kund, Barsana, Nandgaon | Families, first-time visitors |
| 3 days | + Gokul, Raman Reti, Mahavan, Baldeo, more Vrindavan temples | Devotees who want a calm pace |
| 4 days | + Agra (Taj Mahal, Agra Fort) or Premanand Ji Maharaj darshan | Travellers from far cities |
| 7–10 days | Complete Braj 84 Kos Yatra | Devotees doing the full yatra |
Step 2 – Pick the temples that matter to you
Braj has hundreds of temples – you cannot see all of them in one trip. Use this priority list:
| Priority | Temples / places | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Must see | Krishna Janmabhoomi, Banke Bihari, Prem Mandir, ISKCON | The heart of Mathura and Vrindavan |
| Highly recommended | Dwarkadhish + Vishram Ghat aarti, Nidhivan, Radha Raman, Govardhan | History, leelas and aarti |
| If you have time | Rangji, Govind Dev Ji, Madan Mohan, Shahji, Barsana, Nandgaon, Gokul | Architecture and quieter darshan |
| Special interest | Gopeshwar Mahadev, Katyayani Peeth, Kokilavan (Shani Dev) | Shiva, Shakti and Shani devotees |
See the full list of Mathura Vrindavan temples with timings.
Step 3 – Plan around darshan timings
- Most Vrindavan temples open early morning and close around 12 noon, then reopen around 4:30 PM till 8:30–9:30 PM. Plan driving, lunch and rest for the afternoon.
- Banke Bihari darshan timings change between summer and winter – check the Banke Bihari timings before you go.
- Prem Mandir is best after sunset for the lights and the musical fountain (about 7–8 PM).
- Nidhivan and Seva Kunj close after the evening aarti.
- Dwarkadhish has short darshan slots – reach 10–15 minutes early.
- Weekends, Ekadashi and festivals are very crowded; weekdays are calmer.

Where to stay
Stay in Vrindavan if most of your time is for darshan – you can walk or take an e-rickshaw to Banke Bihari and the old temples early in the morning. Stay in Mathura if you arrive by train or want to start early for Govardhan and Barsana. For Govardhan parikrama, a night in Govardhan lets you walk at dawn. Budget pilgrims can check our dharamshala guide.
Getting around and budget tips
- Arriving by air, train or bus? See the nearest airport, railway station and bus stand guides.
- A private cab with a local driver saves time – Vrindavan lanes are narrow and parking is far from some temples.
- E-rickshaws are cheap for short hops inside Vrindavan; agree on the fare first.
- Keep small change for shoe stands, prasad and donations.
- Phones and cameras are not allowed in some temples (Janmabhoomi has strict security) – carry minimal items.
- Watch your glasses, phones and bags – monkeys in Vrindavan snatch them.
- Book cabs and hotels early for Holi, Janmashtami and long weekends.
Trip checklist
- ID proof for every traveller (needed at hotels and Janmabhoomi)
- Comfortable slip-on footwear (you remove shoes often)
- Modest clothing; a shawl for winter mornings
- Water bottle, light snacks, small towel
- Basic medicines and power bank
- Cash in small notes + UPI
